EarSketch DRK-12 Student Engagement Survey 2016-2017

Purpose of the Study
We are researchers in the School of Literature, Communications, and Culture at the Georgia Institute of Technology. We would like to invite you to take part in our research study to learn how young people use music to learn computing.

What Will I be Doing?
By agreeing to participate, you may be invited to participate in a survey, an interview, and a social network. You may also be asked to provide the researchers with copies of the music and programs you create. Your teacher may also share your quiz and test scores on the EarSketch material along with your programs and music with the researchers.

Is it Dangerous?
There aren’t any special risks in being part of this study. The risks are the same as normal activities like talking with parents or friends.

Benefits to you
You may be provided with educational benefits through participation in the studies. Your participation in this study will benefit the program and the National Science Foundation by providing information about increasing participation in computer-related education and careers.

Confidentiality
All of the information we collect will be kept confidential. We may publish papers that include things you say on the survey, interview, and in the social network. To protect your confidentiality, we use a fake name if we write about you, instead of your real name. We do this so that you can feel comfortable talking to us without worrying about who will read it later.

Your rights
· We will not tell anyone that you are in this study.
· You don’t have to be in this study if you don’t want to be.
· You can change your mind at any time and leave the study without any problem.
